Weaknesses: depends on home WiFi (if internet drops, monitoring drops), and micro-SD cards tend to fail after 1-2 years of continuous recording.
Tier 3: Premium with AI (Reolink, EufyCam, Arlo)
Rp 800K-2 million per unit. AI distinguishes person vs animal vs vehicle, smart notifications (skips false alarms from cats), some support facial recognition. Strengths: minimal false alerts, clean video quality. Weaknesses: premium pricing, some cloud features require monthly subscription Rp 50-150K per camera.

NVR vs Cloud: Which Setup Fits
Storage choice splits two paths:
Local NVR (Network Video Recorder)
Recordings live on a hard disk inside the home. 1-2 TB capacity covers 4 cameras at 4 MP recording continuously for 30-45 days. One-time cost, no monthly fees. Risk: if a burglar takes or damages the NVR, recordings are gone.
Cloud storage
Recordings live on the vendor's server. Monthly cost Rp 50-150K per camera. Strengths: hardware damage doesn't lose footage. Weaknesses: needs stable 24/7 internet, and depends on the vendor company's lifespan (if the service shuts down, recordings go with it).
Hybrid (NVR + cloud snapshot)
Some NVRs can simultaneously push snapshots or short clips to cloud on motion detection. Local for full archive, cloud for evidence backup. The safest pattern, with cloud snapshot service typically Rp 30-80K per month.
Installer vs DIY: When Each Makes Sense
For Tier 1 (Hikvision/Dahua with NVR and coax/UTP cabling), hire an experienced installer. Running cable to 4 points through ceilings and walls, terminating BNC connectors, configuring the NVR with per-camera IP addresses — this isn't a non-technical job. Installation cost of Rp 800K-1.5 million for 4 cameras is reasonable.
For Tier 2 and 3 (WiFi consumer), DIY is workable. Setup means installing the app, scanning the QR code on the camera, connecting it to home WiFi. Total time for 4 cameras runs about 90 minutes. But if you're not comfortable on a ladder or drilling brick, hiring help at Rp 250-500K still makes sense.
If you do hire a tukang: ask them to walk you through the planned positions before they start, and ask for a cable routing document (which cable runs to which camera). Many owners regret skipping this when, two years later, they want to swap a camera and can no longer trace which cable is which.
Integration With Cluster Security Systems
Some Bekasi clusters now offer optional integration — your private home cameras can hook into the security post dashboard (via API or RTSP feed). When something happens at home, the security guard can see it in real time. This is a premium feature, still rare, but it's beginning to appear in newer clusters. Ask management whether your cluster supports it.
