Piped Gas in Kota Bekasi Still Sits in One Subdistrict. Check Your Address Before Planning to Drop the Cylinder

Pertagas Niaga counts 4,857 household connections in Kota Bekasi, and every one of them is in a single kelurahan. Connected households pay Rp40,000 to Rp60,000 a month. Before you run the savings maths, find out whether the pipe reaches your address at all.

Indonesia's downstream oil and gas regulator, BPH Migas, inspected the household gas network in Bojong Rawalumbu RW 037, Rawalumbu subdistrict, Kota Bekasi, on Friday 22 May 2026. BPH Migas head Wahyudi Anas led the visit alongside representatives of PT Pertagas Niaga. One figure came out of it that never appears in a property brochure: Pertagas Niaga runs 4,857 household connections in Kota Bekasi, through a partnership with the city-owned company PT Sinergi Patriot Bekasi.

That number decides who can actually cook on piped gas today. It is not the whole of Kota Bekasi, and that is the part buyers most often get wrong.

1. The Map Covers One Kelurahan, Not One City

PT Sinergi Patriot Bekasi, the municipal company that runs the network, states on its own site that the entire network sits within Kelurahan Bojong Rawalumbu, Rawalumbu subdistrict. It was built in two phases:

PhaseHousehold connectionsIn service from
Phase 11,80029 November 2011
Phase 22,82811 April 2012
Total4,628

Gas reaches it under a sale-and-purchase agreement between Sinergi Patriot and PT Pertamina EP, carried through a PT Pertamina Gas pipeline 12.886 km long. The origin is an assignment from the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister to PGN announced on 20 August 2015: 43,334 connections across 11 cities and regencies, with Kota Bekasi allotted 4,628.

So the gap between 4,628 and 4,857 represents fifteen years of growth. It does not signal a network creeping into other subdistricts.

If your address is in Bekasi Utara, Bekasi Barat, Medan Satria or Bekasi Selatan, no public document as of this writing shows a household distribution line already laid there. PGN itself says field supply depends on whether a distribution pipeline is already installed in the particular neighbourhood or housing estate. Coverage on a corporate map is not the same as a pipe running past your gate.

2. What Connected Households Actually Pay

From the May 2026 BPH Migas visit, households in Bojong Rawalumbu pay Rp40,000 to Rp60,000 a month. A mosque community kitchen in the same area pays Rp130,000 a month, and that kitchen cooks roughly 300 meal packs every week.

The local RW head told BPH Migas that tens of thousands of households could become new customers if installation cost less. The BPH Migas head replied that residents' requests had been collected and a mechanism was being worked out, with the hope that construction could be funded through the national or regional budget. No timetable was given.

On supply, BPH Migas said there is still enough gas to add thousands of connections in the area. The constraint is the cost of laying pipe, not the gas itself.

For scale: Pertagas Niaga operates 254,708 activated connections out of 308,833 built. The largest single concentration is Prabumulih, South Sumatra, with 36,232.

3. If Your Address Does Fall Inside, Here Is the Sequence

GasKita registration opens through the pgas.id website, the PGN Mobile app on Play Store or App Store, or by scanning one of the registration barcodes. Four stages follow: registration, then survey and data verification plus commercial administrative assessment, then construction of the pipe to the customer's address, then gas flows.

The figures worth having ready:

  • Rp300,000 subscription guarantee, paid up front.
  • Rp10,000 per m³ for household use between 4 and 50 m³ a month.
  • Use above 50 m³ is charged at 120% of the base gas price.
  • Free pipe installation up to 15 metres, plus conversion of up to two stove burners and one system inspection, for new postpaid customers.

That 15-metre limit is the line people skip. If the distance from the gas meter at your front fence to the stove exceeds 15 metres, the remaining pipe falls outside the free package. In a two-storey house with the kitchen at the back, that allowance runs out faster than you would expect.

4. What You Can Set Up in a New House Now

The house you are buying today probably has no piped gas. Four cheap things still make it ready if a line ever arrives, and all four cost more once you have moved in.

  1. Record the distance from the front fence to the stove position. Measure it once at handover and keep the number. It decides whether you fall inside the 15-metre package. Other things worth checking when you collect the keys are in our handover checklist.
  2. Do not bury a permanent run before anything is confirmed. Gas pipe has its own technical requirements and has to be installed by an authorised technician. Leaving an empty conduit in the wall beats guessing the diameter.
  3. Make sure the kitchen ventilates properly. That holds for cylinders as much as for pipes. Layout for a 70 m² two-storey kitchen is covered separately in our kitchen design guide, and moving the smoky work out back is covered in outdoor and dirty kitchens.
  4. Redo the maths before switching to electric. Induction shifts the load onto your electricity meter, which changes the shape of the monthly bill. The comparison is in induction versus LPG, and the bill effect in monthly electricity costs for a two-storey house.

On renovation work that touches walls and utility runs, estate-manager approval still applies. The rules are in our cluster renovation guide.

5. Three Questions for the Agent or Estate Manager

If sales material mentions being “piped-gas ready”, ask these three:

  1. Is there a gas distribution line in this estate's roads? What you want is pipe already in the ground, not a plan or a memorandum of understanding.
  2. Who operates it. In Kota Bekasi, the household network on record is run by Pertagas Niaga with the city-owned Sinergi Patriot Bekasi. Any other name deserves an explanation.
  3. How far is the nearest connection point from the unit's fence. That number decides who pays for pipe beyond 15 metres.

If none of the three can be answered, treat the house as running on cylinders for now. That is fine. The problem only starts when you have already budgeted monthly savings against infrastructure that does not exist.

Kingspoint Private Residences sits on Jl. Raya Perjuangan, Bekasi Utara, Kota Bekasi, developed by Mandiri Development in a flood-free area, around 5 minutes from Bekasi Station and Summarecon Mall Bekasi and roughly 10 minutes from the Bekasi Barat toll gate. The Emerald 70 house is ready stock: two storeys, 70 m² of floor area on a 47.25 m² plot, 4.5 m × 10.5 m, bore-pile foundation, in the Rp 700 million range with VAT included, instalments from Rp 5 million a month. It is in Bekasi Utara rather than Rawalumbu, so the kitchen runs on cylinders. When you visit, ask our team to show where the utility lines enter the unit from the estate road so you have the distance on record from the start.

Frequently asked

Is piped gas available in Bekasi Utara?

On the public record, household piped-gas connections in Kota Bekasi sit in Bojong Rawalumbu, Rawalumbu subdistrict. No other subdistrict, Bekasi Utara included, is documented as having a household distribution line. Check your address through pgas.id or the PGN Mobile app before you count on the savings.

What does a household piped-gas bill look like?

BPH Migas recorded Bojong Rawalumbu residents paying Rp40,000 to Rp60,000 a month in May 2026. A mosque community kitchen there pays Rp130,000 a month to cook around 300 meal packs a week.

What does a new GasKita connection cost?

A Rp300,000 subscription guarantee. New postpaid customers get free pipe installation up to 15 metres, conversion of up to two stove burners, and one system inspection. Pipe beyond 15 metres is on the customer.
